OVC and Vulnerable Youth

Zambia Rising is a five-year United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded project dedicated to supporting the Government of the Republic of Zambia's goal to improve the quality of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) services through strengthened systems and a policy framework for coordination, planning, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. Working in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) and other partners, this project aims to strengthen social welfare systems, improve coordination amongst line ministries, and bridge the gap between government, civil society, the private sector, and other critical stakeholders.

The project is headed by Save Children Federation Inc (SC) with  sub partners being, Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Management Program (CHAMP) , Boston University / Zambia Center for Applied Health Research and Development (ZCAHRD) , American International Health Alliance (AIHA) and  Training Resource Group (TRG).  The roles of CHAMP on the project include the following:

-Taking a lead in formation of Public Private Partnership (P3) strategies and to guide a systematic OVC economic strengthening approach with the aim of integrating private sector into national policy and programs. CHAMP will use various forums to create an understanding by stakeholders and partners on what engaging the private sector and private sector resources entails, using the Zambia Health Alliance (ZHA) as a platform. ZHA will organize quarterly meetings that will initiate structured private sector to ensure support for GRZ initiatives to strengthen social welfare systems at national and district level.

-Implementation of Private Sector skill gap analysis. The gap analysis is useful in identifying a basis for private sector engagement and informs the skills and jobs that will be part of the virtual job market place.

-Develop of Web Portal that will be a virtual job market place. The portal will also be used to create linkages between GRZ and private sector and orphans and vulnerable youth seeking skills trainings and jobs.  In addition, the portal will also be linked to other organizations and OVC resources.

-Strengthening SWAZ in business development and engagement of private sector. This will empower SWAZ in adopting a business, self reliance and sustainability.

-Training of Community Rising and key district stakeholders in Engagement of Private Sector and business development in Zambia arising target districts.  The emphasis is on private sector engagement and meeting of vulnerable children and youth needs at district level.
